. . . from Maggie's Desk:

As you know, after close to 12 years of building Wynterblue, this is the first time I have ever used Wynterblue to promote my own work so, needless to say, it feels completely alien to me to be doing this - however - in order to keep Wynterblue afloat financially, I am hoping to make a tiny splash on YouTube with my big red book entitled: 365 Nights. Any help promoting these videos will benefit Wynterblue and it won't cost you a single dime!

The audio of Nights 1 & 2 begins at approx 40 seconds - but I'm working on it to make the audio begin sooner. I'm new to doing this, so I ask for your patience as I work out the kinks in the presentation of these stories. Thank goodness that I'm a quick study! Please feel free to share any ideas or experience regarding this project - including your feedback!

       Here we go. . .

Author Diane Bator moved across Canada with her husband, three kids and a cat in 2005 and chose to bloom where she was planted. Having rekindled her passions for writing and painting, she joined the Headwaters Writers’ Guild in April 2007 and has written several novels, short stories and poems. Her work can be found in Mid-Bits Magazine, Stories of Prayers and Faith (Spiral Press, 2010) and A Walk in Fields of Gold (Spiral Press, 2010).

Suspect - John Muller:

Artists are people who can stare into the face of evil and pain and turn them into cold, hard cash. If I were a painter, I would create an entire series of works of Stephanie Schwartz and make a killing. Instead, I was a drinker with a writing problem.

My being a writer was fortuitous since I’d be able to turn the whole tragedy into a six-figure contract in no time. This on top of an autobiography of my life with the woman I’d married out of pity and came to loath.

The sight of Stephanie sprawled out on the beach with her head bashed in had both repulsed and thrilled me all at once and the fact that her best friend was now my crying towel was sweet revenge. I had a hundred good reasons to drink to excess and do as I pleased all in the name of grief and being a sensitive artist. If I’d wanted, I could even bed my wife’s best friend and not have to explain myself to anyone.

Constable Sam:

The smell of dinner wafted through the air, reminding me that I hadn’t eaten lunch. I was in a hurry to take care of business and get home before the fireworks started. Instead, I was still stuck on a bad remake of Gilligan’s Island. None of us was going to leave Gertrude’s Island until I was satisfied I had Stephanie Schwartz’s killer.

Silence was served for dinner at eight o’clock that evening along with roast chicken, baked potatoes and salad which was followed by a decadent assortment of desserts. Apparently, Gertrude tended to cook a lot when she was stressed. I’m a meat and potatoes man, but I’m not averse to indulging in a slab or two of chocolate cake from time to time.

Gertrude and her guests sat around the table and watched me eat. Most of them chose to pass on solid food and stuck to coffee or alcohol, but her cooking wasn’t going to waste on my account. Me and the forensics boys were starved. We’d had a long day and wanted nothing more than a good meal and to wrap things up.
